Photo Essay: The Gritty, Endearing Streets of Cali, Colombia

by Ekua on March 24, 2014 in captured on memory card,Colombia

Cali is the kind of city dresses for itself and not for anyone else. It’s aloof, yet playful with its style; it lets you think it’s all urban grit, then it throws in a little bit of quaintness and challenges your perception of it. It’s generally ugly with a splash of color, art, or poetry just around the corner. The contrasts make Cali intriguing; it’s the kind of place that makes you want to search for flowers growing between the cracks in the concrete.

Glad you enjoyed this! I’m not in Cali right now, but I definitely did go salsa dancing twice while I was there.

I just had to comment and let you know how jealous I am, it’s still snowing and freezing where I live. “Ugly with a splash of colour” is such a perfect phrase to describe new places.. Finding the colour is the whole point of traveling and also why I love it so much 😉
